Soccer to Hold Inaugural Wall of Fame Ceremony

On Sunday, October 6, The University of Findlay men and women's soccer programs will host the inaugural Oiler Soccer Wall of Fame Ceremony. The greatest soccer players in school history will be recognized and memorialized at DeHaven Field. Each year the selection committee will decide which player or players will be permanently honored with a plaque on the Wall of Fame.

The inaugural class will be the women's 1996 team and the men's 2003 team.

The 1996 women's team finished the year with a 20-2-2 record, setting a school record for most victories in a season. They scored 93 goals, which is also a single season record.  Their two losses represents a school record for fewest defeats in a season and they failed to find the back of the net only once all year.

After the regular season concluded, the team went to the NAIA national tournament, where they were undefeated. A win and a tie was not enough to take them into the final Four however and they were eliminated on goal difference. They finished the year ranked #7 in the country.

The 2003 men's team started slowly. It was a senior-laden team. Going into the last game of the season against Ashland, they needed a win to even have a chance of being selected to the playoffs. They won the game and became the first Findlay soccer team selected to participate in the NCAA tournament.

Once the team got in the tournament they kept winning, including an upset win over the #1 team in the country, Truman State, in the quarter finals that sent them to the NCAA DII Final Four in Virginia. The team finished 10-6-5 and was ranked #5 in the country.

The ceremony will take place in between the women's and men's game on Sunday and is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m.
