Oilers Fall in OT Against D1 Penguins

The University of Findlay women's soccer team took NCAA Division I foe Youngstown State University to overtime on Sep. 13 in Youngstown, Ohio before falling 3-2 in the extra session.

The Oilers got off to a great start as senior Katelyn Anderson scored on a direct kick just 1:51 into the game. The Penguins would then answer six minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.

Just before the 30-minute mark of the opening period, the Oilers took the lead when senior Kendall Kwiatkowski scored unassisted from 17 yards out. The Penguins would once again answer the Findlay score however as they found the back of the net just moments later.

Both teams played a scoreless second half and then Marcy Riese of Youngstown State ended the game in the sixth minute of overtime.

SchaDon Herd took the loss in the net for the Oilers as she allowed three goals. She also made seven saves.

The Penguins held a 21-11 advantage in shots and also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Oilers will return to the field of play on Sep. 18 when they take on 12th-ranked Grand Valley State University. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in Allendale, Mich.
