Oilers Win in Overtime Thriller against Yellow Jackets

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's soccer team hosted the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 4:00 PM. In an overtime thriller, the Oilers were able to score the golden goal to win the game 1-0. The win moves Findlay back into first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference over Cedarville, who previously held the spot. The Oilers are now 6-0-2 on the season with a 5-0-2 record in conference play. The Yellow Jackets move to a season record of 6-2-0 and 5-2-0 in the league.

The first half started slow for both teams with no shots taken until 20 minutes into the game. The Oilers took two quick shots to get the game rolling. The ball continued to move back and forth between the two teams with intensity until the half ended with no goals on the board.

The second half began with just as much intensity as the first as both teams were itching to get on goal up on the score board. Cedarville outshot Findlay five to two in the second half, but neither team was able to capitalize off their shots. The second period ended scoreless sending the game into overtime.

Findlay came into overtime with fire, getting two back to back corner kick opportunities just five minutes in. Sophomore Lindsey Abhe was able to take a shot off the corner kick from Senior Megan Kupetz but it hit the post. Two minutes later in the 98th minute of the match sophomore Lindsay Abhe was able to put the ball past the Yellow Jackets goalie to end the game in a golden goal.

The Oilers took nine shots total, outshooting the Yellow Jackets by three. Senior Megan Kupetz took three shots and freshman Nikki Schuster tallied two.

Junior Anna Money was in goal for the Oilers, coming up with three saves on the day.

The Oilers will be on the road on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 1:30 PM to take on another G-MAC opponent, the Malone Pioneers.
