Schnell-McCoy Wins GLIAC Title, Oilers Take 5th

The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the final day of the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Saturday, February 12 in Jenison, Michigan. The women finished the event in fifth place with 310 points while the men took seventh with 22 points.

Nikki Schnell-McCoy captured a GLIAC Championship in the 200-yard backstroke after crossing the line in 2:00.25, good for a new school record and a NCAA automatic qualifying mark.

She also teamed with Ailsa Hershaw, Emily Thomas and Tanya Tikhonova to place fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a school record-breaking time of 3:32.27.

Mallory Ament added a ninth place finish in the 1650 free with a school record-breaking time of 8:12.06 while Tikhonova and Hershaw achieved "B" cuts in the 200-yard backstroke.

Tikhonova was seventh in the event at 2:07.41 while Hershaw finished tenth at 2:07.27 in the consolation group.

Maddie Bell took 13th in the 3-meter dive at 305.90 while Jillian Herbst was 15th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.30.

On the men's side, Tim Andersson-Lind finished eighth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.79) while John Bogart was 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.25).

Andersson-Lind's time was a "B" cut in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Oilers will be back in action again on February 19 at the Kenyon Invitational in Gambier, Ohio.
