Findlay Women Take 6th At EMU
The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the second day of the Eastern Michigan University Invitational on Saturday, December 3 in Ypsilanti, Michigan and were led by David Soutoul who broke a school record and qualified for one event for the NCAA Championships.
Soutoul placed 11th in the 200 IM with a NCAA "B" time of 1:55.54 while beating the previous Oiler record of 1:56.38. Soutoul also took seventh in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.25.
Soutoul teamed with freshmen David Vittori, Ryan Randall, and Colton Sayers to take 11th in the 800 freestyle relay at 7:15.60. The Oilers grabbed 12th place in the 200 free relay with a team consisting of Randall, Vittori, Colton Brauning and David Conti with a time of 1:31.44
Conti took 14thin the 400 IM at a time of 4:32.08 while teammate Vittori placed 15th at 4:49.76 in the 500 freestyle.
On the women's side, Annie Currin placed 11th at 1:58.96 in the 200 free, 13th in the 500 free at 5:13.41, and teamed with Molly Cade, Emily Thomas, and Ailsa Hershaw for an eighth place finish in the 800 free relay.
Molly Cade generated an 11th place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 59.03 and took 17th in the 50 free at 25.52. Hershaw and Kate Fisher placed 12th (4:44.95) and 13th (4:46.43), respectively, in the 400 IM.
The Oilers 400 medley relay team of Hershaw, Fisher, Cade, and Thomas added a seventh place finish with a time of 4:08.65.
In team competition, the women placed sixth with 152 points while the men were seventh with 108 points.
The Oiler diving teams finished their second day of competition at Kenyon College for the Total Performance Invitational where Maddie Bell set a new meet record as she snatched first in the 3 meter dive with a score of 362.40.
The Oilers will be back in action again on January 14 when they travel to Grand Valley State University for a meet starting time of 1 p.m.
