Oilers Have a Strong Day at GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the third day of competition at the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Friday, Feb. 8 in Canton, Ohio.

The women's team has accumulated 180 points through three days of competition and is ranked seventh at the event.  The men meanwhile are eighth with 101 points.

Kaley Holmstrom had a great day for the women's squad, placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.07.  Her time set a new school record and was also a NCAA Division II "B" cut mark.

Holmstrom was also a part of the Oilers 400-yard medley relay team, which finished sixth with a time of 3:54.74.  Ailsa Hershaw, Molly Cade and Emily Thomas rounded out the other Oilers on the team as they achieved a NCAA Division II "B" cut time.

Cade also had a "B" time in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming her way to an eighth place finish at 57.88.

Jillian Herbst added a tenth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at 58.05 while Tanya Tikhonova was 14th in the same event at 59.30.

Thomas also chipped in an 18th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle after crossing the line in 1:57.60.

On the men's side, the Oilers 400-yard medley relay team of Diego Santos, Colton Sayers, David Conti and Anthony Calvillo earned an eighth place finish with a time of 3:38.34.

Conti was 13th in the 400-yard IM at 4:18.60, Santos was 13th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.55 and Calvillo was 17th in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:03.05.

Sayers added a 21st place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at 54.28 and Jay Clinger was 21st in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.60.

The Oilers will wrap the championship event up tomorrow.
