Oilers Finish 8th at GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Canton, Ohio.  Both teams finished the event in eighth place as the women racked up 248 points and the men scored 135.

On the women's side, Molly Cade finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a NCAA "B" cut time of 2:07.92 while Kaley Holmstrom took eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a NCAA "B" mark of 2:21.83.  She also broke her own school record in the preliminary round after crossing the line in 2:21.41.

The Oilers 400-yard freestyle relay team of Jillian Herbst, Annie Currin, Tanya Tikhonova and Kate Fisher were ninth at 3:44.69 while Ailsa Hershaw was 11th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.52.

Ashleigh Weddington finished 11th in the 3-meter dive with 360.90 while Maddie Bell took 14th in the same event with 335.60 points.

Tikhonova was 12th in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:09.52, Currin finished 14th in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:20.44 and Herbst finished 16th in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:17.62.

On the men's side, the Oilers 400-yard freestyle relay team of David Conti, Diego Santos, Colton Sayers and Garrett Gardner came away with an eighth place finish at 3:19.12 to lead the way.

Santos also finished tenth in the 200-yard backstroke with a school record breaking time of 1:51.53 while Sayers was 12th in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:58.74.

Conti added a 17th place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke after crossing the line in 2:16.31.
