Oilers Finish Day 1 of ITA

The University of Findlay women's tennis team competed at the ITA Midwest Regional on Friday in Allendale, Mich.

Nina Djordjevic and Matina Matic both went 2-0 in the "A" singles competition to lead the Oilers.

Djordjevic came away with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Halima Michael of Davis and Elkins before she defeated Indianapolis' Selenay Heper by a score of 6-2, 75.  She will prepare to face Grand Valley State's Alexa Sweeney tomorrow.

Matic won 6-1, 6-1 over Ohio Dominican's Anita Grizrd before claiming a 6-1, 6-0 Northwood's Anastasia Puchkina.

The two also combined to go 1-1 in "A" doubles competition and will battle Indianapolis' Stephanie Hirsch and Allie Smith tomorrow in the consolation bracket.

Viktoriya Shkola and Melissa Djohan went 2-0 in the "B" doubles competition to reach the semifinals. They reached the semifinals by claiming an 8-1 win over Asia Harris and Anastasiya Dasik and will face Rachel Sumner and Courtney Lang from Grand Valley State tomorrow.

Anna Foreman is still alive in the "B" singles consolation after posting a 1-1 record and will face Grand Valley State's Kristina Lucas tomorrow while Djohan went 2-1 in "B" singles.

Kiara Shaw posted a 1-2 record in the "B" singles while Shkola went 0-2.

Foreman and Shaw also teamed to go 1-1 in "B" doubles competition.
