Oilers Complete Day 1 at USTA/ITA Regional

The University of Findlay women's tennis team competed at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional in Allendale, Mich. On Sep. 15.

Laura Brito advanced in singles A competition by beating Davis & Elkins' Taylour Newman 6-2, 6-1.

Samantha Sweet went 1-1 in singles A, losing 6-3, 7-5 to Saginaw Valley State's Maddie Miller before winning 0-6, 6-3, 10-8 against Ferris State's Silvia Verebes.

Eliza Kirov fell twice in singles A competition, losing 7-5, 5-7, 9-11 to Davis & Elkins' Karin Romero before being defeated 7-6, 7-5 by Southern Indiana's Lauren Hambrock.

In A doubles competition, Sweet and Kirov fell twice. They lost 8-3 to Illinois-Springfield's Kena Bere and Maegen Flight before falling to Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki.

In singles B, Mikaela Hindenlang lost her first match and then defeated Rockhurst's Sara Flaxbeard by a score of 6-0, 6-3 in the consolation round.

In B doubles, Brito and Hindenlang claimed an 8-2 win over Rosie Thompson and Halie Hardwick by a score of 8-2.
