Alvarado Earns Second Straight Athlete of the Week Honor

Findlay, Ohio - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced their tennis Athletes of the Week on Wednesday, March 10. University of Findlay junior Laiying Alvarado earned the award for the second consecutive week.

The Oilers went 2-1 on the week with wins over Lawrence Tech (4-0) and Saginaw Valley (5-2). Findlay fell to Indiana Tech in a close match (3-4). Alvarado went 3-0 in No. 1 singles and picked up a win in No. 1 doubles last week.  

In the win over Lawrence Tech, Alvarado won No. 1 singles (LT) 6-7 (6-8), 4-1, unfinished. 

Against Saginaw, Alvarado easily defeated her No. 1 singles opponent, 6-0, 6-1. Alvarado and teammate Samantha Sweet dominated No. 1 doubles, 6-0. 

At Indiana Tech, Alvarado picked up her third No. 1 singles win of the week (7-5, 3-6, 6-1). 

The junior is 3-0 in No. 1 singles on the season. Alvarado has two No. 1 doubles wins on the season; one with Sweet and one with Luciana Pereyra.
