Clay Breaks School Record, Runs 5th Fastest Time in NCAA DII History

Senior Raven Clay led the Oilers on the second day of the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championship, which ended on Friday, May 25 in Pueblo, Colo.

Clay placed second in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles after crossing the finish line with a school record breaking time of 13.05.  The time is the fifth best in NCAA Division II history and is also an Olympic "B" standard qualifying mark.

Clay, who earned All-American honors in the event, will compete for the national title tomorrow.

The women's team, who is currently in 15th place with eight points, also saw Jessica Rowland take 17th place in the discus at 135'09.

On the men's side, Cory Vales took sixth in the high jump with a leap of 6'10.75 as he earned All-American honors in the event.

Derrick Vicars placed 13th in the discus throw with a hurl of 164'06 while the 4x400-meter relay team of John Guagenti, Curtis Smithey, Michael Travis and Dillon Webster narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals after finishing 11th with a time of 3:13.08.

The men's squad is currently in 12th place, scoring seven points so far.

The championship event will conclude tomorrow.
