Oilers Complete GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's track and field teams completed the final day of the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday, Feb. 24 in Allendale, Mich.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Michael Travis, Tim Sanders, Darren Johnson and Dillon Webster finished second with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:13.46. Individually, Webster also took fourth in the 800-meter run with an NCAA automatic qualifying and school record breaking time of 1:50.36 while Tim Sanders finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8:36.

Justin Eilerman wrapped up the men's running events with an eighth place finish in the mile run (4:15.54).

In field events, Johnson and Glen Forsythe took fourth and fifth with NCAA provisional qualifying distances of 47'02.50 and 47'00.00, respectively.

Cory Shank placed second in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional qualifying height of 16'07.50, while Taylor Miller and Marcus Vicars placed second and third with NCAA provisional qualifying heaves of 59'08.50 and 57'04.75, respectively.

As a team, the men finished in fourth with 64.50 total points. Grand Valley State University took top honors with 191.50 points.

On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay team of Shelby Stump, Maud Sanmiquel, Samantha Grippe and Kirsten Gaerke took fifth with a time of 3:56.32.

In field events, Jessica Rowland placed third in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 47'11.00, while Lydia Guagenti took eighth in the high jump with a mark of 5'03.25.

As a team, the women finished in sixth with 38 total points while Grand Valley took top honors with 229.50 points.
