Oilers Complete Day One Of Wake Forest Open

The University of Findlay men and women's outdoor track and field team completed day one of the Wake Forest Open on Friday, March 15th in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Derrick Vicars led the way in his return for the men, winning the hammer throw with a NCAA provisional toss of 194'07, and took second in the shot put with an NCAA automatic qualifying heave of 62'01.00. His brother, Marcus Vicars, took fourth in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 54'02.75.

In other men's field events, Derek Spindler took third in the pole vault with a height of 14'11.00, and Glen Forsythe took third in the triple jump with a mark of 47'06.25.

In running events, John Guagenti won the 400-meter run with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 46.95, while Dillon Webster took eighth in the same event with a time of 48.84.

Tim Sanders won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:17.91, and took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14.61.

On the women's side, Jessica Rowland took second in the hammer throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying toss of 186'06, while Kendra Averesch took eighth in the same event with a mark of 153'02. Averesch also took fifth in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 45'05.75.

Lydia Guagenti took fifth in the high jump (5'04.25), Laura Kelly took eighth in the high jump (4'10.25), and Maud Sanmiquel took eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.10).

The Wake Forest Open will conclude tomorrow.
