Women's Track in 9th Place at NCAA DII Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed the second day of the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championship on Friday, May 24 in Pueblo, Colo.

Derrick Vicars led the way by taking third place in the discus throw with a school record heave of 185'08.

The Oilers 4x400-meter relay team of John Guagenti, Tim Sanders, Michael Travis and Dillon Webster also had a record-breaking performance, taking seventh in the preliminary round with a time of 3:08.70 to qualify for the finals tomorrow.

Webster also added a 21st place finish in the 800-meter run at 1:56.05.

On the women's side, the Oilers 4x400-meter relay team of Christine Zimmermann, Maud Sanmiquel, Shelby Stump and Kirsten Gaerke placed 14th with a time of 3:54.13 while Pam Showman added a 15th place finish in the heptathlon with 4,730 points.

Jessica Rowland was 17th in the discus with a mark of 137'08 while Zimmermann placed 21st in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in 2:20.85.

The men's team is currently in ninth place with ten points while the women are sitting in 11th place with ten points as well.

The championship event will conclude tomorrow.
