Oilers Complete Day 2 of the Oiler Opener
The University of Findlay men's and women's indoor track and field teams played host to day two of the Oiler Opener on Saturday, December 7 in the Malcom Athletic Center.
For the men, Junior Dillon Webster ran well on the day as he finished first in the 800 meter run with an NCAA provisional time of 1:54.32 and also teamed with sophomore Elliott Westerbeck, freshman Derek Collins, and junior Jacob Miller to guide the Oilers to a second place finish in 4x400 meter relay. The squad finished with a time of 3:26.40. Miller also competed in the heptathlon and finished fourth, totaling 4260 points.
Findlay had a top finisher in the men's 300 meter dash as freshman Derek Collins paced the field with a 37.03. He was followed closely by teammate, sophomore Kyle Smithey who finished in third with a time of 37.46. Collins also competed in the long jump and placed second with a jump distancing 6.69 meters.
Freshman Ben Hahler competed and placed second in the shot put with a toss of 16.39 meters, an NCAA provisional qualifying throw.
In other field event action, sophomore Derek Spindler finished fourth in the pole vault as he scaled to a height of 4.30 meters.
The Findlay women were highlighted by their 4x400 meter relay team. A lineup of sophomore Maud Sanmiquel, freshman Kadesha Roberts, junior Pam Showman, and freshman Adrianna Powell-Lawrence raced to the finish with a time 4:00.36, good enough for first place in the event. Powell-Lawrence also competed in the 400 meter dash and took second with a time of 59.91. Sanmiquel showed she isn't limited to 400 meters as she battled to a fourth place finish in the 600 meter race, finishing with a time of 1:39.38.
Also competing in the 400 meter final was junior Shelby Stump who took home a third place finish with a time of 1:00.08.
In the women's high jump, Findlay sophomore Lydia Guagenti cleared a height of 1.55 meters, good enough for a third place finish.
Freshman Taylor Allen and sophomore Victoria Burt competed in the pole vault and finished third and fourth with jumps of 3.10 and 2.95 meters, respectively.
Back on the track, junior Brittany Carroll ran the 60 meter hurdles and completed the racein 9.16 seconds, a fourth place finish.
The two teams have over a month of wait until their next event on January 11 when they travel to Michigan for the Hillsdale Winter Open.
