Oilers Compete In Day 1 of Findlay Classic

The University of Findlay men's and women's track teams hosted Day 1 of the Findlay Indoor Track & Field Classic on Friday, January 24 in the Malcolm Athletic Center.

The women's distance medley relay team, comprised of sophomore Erica Bettac, senior Emily Caudill, sophomore Samantha Grippe and senior Alexa Stults, finished in first place with a time of 12:32.95 to lead the way.

Junior Kendra Averesch led the Findlay throwers with her NCAA provisional qualifying toss that measured 57'03.50 and placed her in second for the meet. Joining Averesch with a NCAA provisional throw was freshman Erica King, whose heave of 57'02.00 landed her in third place. Sophomore Anna Knapski also showed well and her throw of 52'03.25 was good enough for sixth.

The women's pentathlon competed on day one and saw junior Pam Showman finish in seventh with 3,571 points. Her highest finish came in the shot put where she finished third with a throw of 34'03.00. Her 3,571 point score is an NCAA provisional qualifying total. Also competing in the event and meeting an NCAA provisional mark was sophomore Maud Sanmiquel. She finished in ninth with a score of 3,386. Her best individual event came in the 800 meter race where she finished first with a time of 2:19.55.

Sophomore Victoria Burt finished in fifth place in the women's pole vault with a jump that measured 10'02.00.

In men's action, junior Justin Welch had an NCAA automatic qualifying toss in the weight throw. He came in first in the event with a throw that measured 71'09.50. Also competing in the event for Findlay was sophomore Parker Schroeder who finished second in the event. His throw measured 53'07.00.

The distance medley relay team met NCAA provisional requirements with their time of 10:14.50. The team of junior Jacob Hayes, sophomore Kyle Smithey, junior Dillon Webster and senior Justin Eilerman finished in first in the event.

Day 2 begins tomorrow, January 25th at 9:25am with the women's shot put and high jump and the men's and women's long jump.
