Findlay Classic Concludes with Action Packed Day 2

The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams were in action on Day 2 of the Findlay Indoor Track and Field Classic on Saturday, January 25th in Malcolm Athletic Center.

Junior Kendra Averesch had the only NCAA Provisional on the day for the women. Her toss of  47'03.50 in the shot put placed her in fourth place.

The Findlay women's highlight event was the 4x400 meter dash where the A, B, and C teams finished in first, second, and third, respectively. The A team was comprised of junior Shelby Stump, freshman Kadesha Roberts, freshman Adrianna Powell-Lawrence, and junior Kirsten Gaerke and they finished with a time of 3:57.28. Team B was made up of junior Maud Sanmiquel, senior Pam Showman, junior Taylor Ackerman, and sophomore Samantha Grippe and they finished with a time of 4:00.72. The C team contained senior Emily Caudill, sophomore Erica Bettac, sophomore Lydia Guagenti, and junior Alexa Stults and they finished with a time of 4:09.75.

Many of these athletes competed in multiple events.

In the 600 meter run, Grippe took first with her time of 1:37.44. Also competing for the Oilers in that race was freshman Sarah Wallace, whose time of 1:49.11 was good enough for 5th.

Guagenti competed in the high jump where her leap of 5'02.25 was good enough for second place.

Bettac also competed in the 800 meter run and took second place with her time of 2:21.37.

Sanmiquel and Showmen both competed in the 200 meter dash with finishes of 25.88 (2nd) and 26.54 (5th).

In the 400 meter dash Stump ran a 59.24, good enough for second. Powell-Lawrence's  59.61 got her third place in the event.

Freshman Lilia Malyarova highlighted the long jumpers as she took first place with her jump that measured 17'07.50. Ackerman took second in the event with a jump of 17'04.00. Ackerman also competed in the 60 meter dash where her time of 7.95 placed her in third.

Sophomore Melanie Ruich finished in fourth place with a time of 5:29.87 in the 1 mile race.

Senior Brittany Carroll ran in the 60 meter hurdles and took fourth with a time of 9.22.

Stults ran in the 100 meter race for the Oilers and her time of 3:08.15 was good enough for fourth.

MEN

Junior Dillon Webster was the highlight on the men's side where his 600 meter race set both Meet and Fieldhouse records. Webster took first place with a time of 1:18.96, breaking the old records that have been in place since one day shy of 12 years ago, by just two-hundredths of a second.  Also running in this event was senior Shane Stein who took fourth with a time of 1:28.87. Webster was also part of the 4x400 meter team that took first with a time of 3:24.18. Others on that team were freshman Derek Collins, freshman Maliik Briggs, and sophomore Kyle Smithey.

Also taking first in an event was freshman Alexander Zolotoglavyy who met an NCAA Provisional mark with his leap pf 23'06.25 in the long jump.

In the 3,000 meter race, junior Jacob Hayes took first place with his time of 8:51.06.

Junior Demorrio Leggett, fresh off his Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Week honor, took first in the triple jump with a jump of 47'00.25, an NCAA Provisional mark.

There were 2 NCAA Provisional marks met in the shot put. Senior Marcus Vicars took third with a toss that measured 54'00.50. Freshman Ben Hahler took fifth place with a throw of 53'05.5.

Sophomore Kyle Smithey took third in the 400 meter dash with his time of 52.18.

In the mile, senior Justin Eilerman finished in fourth with a time of 4:21.21.

Heptathlon competitor Jacob Miller took fifth place with 4206 points. His best finish came in the 1000 meter run where he took 2nd with a time of 2:48.85.

The Oilers are back on the track next Friday, January 31, when they will host the Findlay Open and Elite Weight Throws.
