Women Highlight Day 1 at Valentine Invitational in Boston

The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams hit the road this weekend as they traveled to Boston, Massachusetts for the Valentine Invitational held at Boston University for a two-day event that began Friday, February 7 and will conclude Saturday, February 8.

The women took to the track on Friday with the men to compete of Saturday.

Junior Kendra Averesch had a great showing at the meet as she finished top five in multiple events. In the women's shot put, Averesch took second place with her toss that measured 50'09.25. Her night was not complete as she later took fourth place in the women's weight throw with a toss of 54'02.50. Also competing in both events was Alex DeVincentis. The freshman took 14th in the shot put with a throw of 39'02.25 and earned 32nd  in the weight throw with a throw of 41'10.75. Also in the weight throw were freshman Erica King and freshman Liz Streacker. King took sixth with a throw of 52'04.50 and Streacker earned tenth with a throw of 50'10.75.

In the high jump, Findlay's talent was showcased by sophomore Lydia Guagenti whose jump of 5'07.00 earned her third place in a field of over 40 competitors.

Freshman Lilia Malyarova finished in seventh in the triple jump with a combination of leaps that measured 38'08.25.

The Oilers had two teams compete in the 4x400 meter relay. Team "A", consisting of senior Pam Showman, freshman Kadesha Roberts, freshman Adrianna Powell-Lawrence, and junior Shelby Stump, finished in eighth with a time of 3:51.62. Team "B" included sophomore Maud Sanmiquel, sophomore Samantha Grippe, Guagenti, and junior Kirsten Gaerka. This group finished in 22nd with a time of 4:00.87.

In the 400 meter dash, Powell-Lawrence finished in 29th with a time of 57.59. Stump ran a 59.18 and earned 53rd. Roberts took 62nd with her time of 59.65. Senior Emily Caudill  took 94th with a time of 1:00.57 and Gaerke took 98th with a time of 1:00.64.

Grippe and Sanmiquel also ran in the 800 meter dash. Grippe finished in a time of 2:14.71 and earned 29th while Sanmiquel ran a 2:15.85 and earned 38th. Sophomore Erica Bettac also competed in this race and finished in 53rd with a time of 2:17.48.

Sanmiquel and Showman also competed in the 60 meter hurdles. Sanmiquel took 17th with a time of 9.07 and Showman earned 24th with her time of 9.17.

In the mile, Bettac took 89th with a time of 5:15.83.

Showman competed in the long jump and took 27th with her leap of 16'07.75. Junior Taylor Ackerman also competed in the event and took 44th with a jump that measured 15'11.00.

The men will take the track tomorrow with events beginning at 11 am with the men's 60 meter hurdles.
