Oilers Compete at N.C. State's Raleigh Relays
The University of Findlay men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh North Carolina on day one of the two day event on Friday, March 28th.
Junior Kendra Averesch picked up where she left off from the indoor season and took fourth in the women's shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss that measured 47'08.50 ft. That toss set a new Findlay outdoor record. Freshman Alex DeVincentis found herself in 28th of the field of 69 with a throw of 40'00.75 ft. Devincentis was also busy in the discus as her throw of 138'08" earned her 17th in the event.
Sophomore Lydia Guagenti competed in the women's high jump and tied for 11th. Her jump of 5'05.00 was the highest cleared by any competitor but she placed lower because she cleared the bar on her third attempt. All 13 athletes that cleared 5'05.00 (1.65m) failed to clear 1.70m.
In the women's long jump, freshman Lilia Malyarova took 15th of over 70 competitors with a jump that measured 17'09.00.
In the women's 100 meter hurdles, junior Pam Showman finished second in her heat with a time of 14.68 sec.
Competing in the 3k steeplechase was sophomore Erica Bettac. She took third in section C with her time of 11:21.60.
In the women 400 meter dash, freshman Adrianna Powell-Lawrence took fifth place in her heat and 61st overall with a time of 58.26. The field contained 181 competitors.
In the women's 5000 meter run, freshman Melanie Ruich finished second in section F with a time of 18:20.56.
In the men's discus, senior Marcus Vicars took eighth in flight 1 (22nd overall) with a throw that distanced 152'09. Finishing second in flight 4 was sophomore Parker Schroeder took second with a hurl of 146'01.
Vicars was busy in the shot put as well and took fifth place overall with a throw of 54'04.75. That toss met the NCAA provisional mark.
In the men's long jump invitational, freshman Alexander Zolotoglavy earned sixth place as he jumped to a distance of 23'05.50.
Freshman Derek Collins competed in the men's 400 dash and took third place in his heat with a time of 49.95. Overall, he finished in 62nd of 179 runners.
10th place in heat 2 of the men's 1500 invitational was captured by junior Jake Hayes. He finished the race in a time of 3:57.99.
In the college division of the men's long jump, freshman Derek Collins took sixth in flight 2 with a jump of 20'05.00
