Oilers Compete on First Day of GLIAC Championships

The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams competed on Day 1 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship meet on Wednesday, April 30 in Geneva, OH.
Men

Justin Welch earned ten points for the men with his victory in the hammer throw. The junior's toss of 69.58m won by over four meters and gave Welch another NCAA automatic qualifier.  Senior Marcus Vicars also competed in the event and took 11th with a toss of 52.09m.

Junior Jacob Miller was busy in the men's decathlon. His best finish on the first day of competition cam in the 400 meter dash where he finished third with a time of 50.81.

Women

Junior Kendra Averesch took tenth place in the hammer throw with her throw of 49.54m. Also in the event was sophomore Anna Knapski. She took 19th with a throw of 45.97.

Junior Pam Shoman and sophomore Lydia Guagenti were active in the heptathlon and each saw success in certain events. Shoman's best event was in the shot put where she won with her throw of 11.00m. Guagenti's best finish was in the high jump where she took second with a jump of 1.66m.
