Chargers hold off Oilers 3-0

The women's volleyball team lost to Hillsdale 3-0 on Sunday. The Chargers, currently ranked #14 in the AVCA national poll, swept the Oilers in straight sets 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.

Findlay held an 18-16 advantage in set one before Hillsdale's Ashlee Crowder got hot with three kills and Apryl Schmucker served four points to finish out the set.

The Oilers' used a balanced attack to stay competitive throughout the match. Freshman middle hitters Mackenzie Vorst and Danielle Taflinger hit .364 on the day, and outside hitter Abby LaVigne tallied 12 kills and 2 aces.

Hillsdale's outside hitters supplied their offensive firepower, with Crowder leading all hitters with 13 kills and Amanda Bigney contributing 12.

Senior setter Megan Florence rattled off three aces in the match and libero Rachael Hammond dug nine balls.

The loss concludes a difficult homestand in which the Oilers have gone 0-5 against GLIAC opponents. Findlay heads out on the road next weekend and hopes to get back in the win column with matches against Lake Superior State on Saturday and Northwood University on Sunday.
