Oilers pace GLIAC with 11 All-Academic Honorees

Eleven members of the women's volleyball team earned GLIAC All-Academic honors for their performance in the classroom this fall, tying for the most among volleyball programs in the conference. Every Oiler volleyball player eligible received either the All-Academic Excellence or All-Academic award.

Senior Sarah Schroeder, Junior Erin Thomasson, and sophomores Andrea Holthaus, Kelly Lapeus and Maggie Naayers, and redshirt freshman Bethany Hoelscher were named to the All-Academic Excellence team. The All-Academic Excellence designation is given to student athletes with a cumulative GPA above 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Five Oilers made the All-Academic team, awarded to athletes with GPAs from 3.0-3.49. They are seniors Megan Florence and Abby LaVigne, and juniors Morgan Rogers, Jess VonIns and Rachael Hammond.

Findlay was one of two GLIAC volleyball programs that led the GLIAC with 11 players named to All-Academic teams. Lake Erie College also placed 11 players on the honor roll. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.

"Our players exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete," said coach Wick Colchagoff. "They understand the work and the commitment it takes to juggle academics and athletics, and I am very proud of their success."

The team compiled a 3.49 GPA during the fall semester and also has received the AVCA's All-Academic Team award in each of the last six years.
