Oilers Go 2-0 On Saturday in Alaska

The University of Findlay volleyball team won two matches on Saturday, September 1 in Fairbanks, Alaska, defeating Cal Sate East Bay 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-19) and winning 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-19) against Notre Dame de Namur.  The pair of wins improve the Oilers record to 2-1 for the 2012 campaign.

In the win over Cal State East Bay, Danielle Taflinger tallied nine kills while Mackenzie Vorst and Andrea Holthaus recorded seven kills each. Sophomore Amanda Calhoun had 25 digs.

Vorst led the team with nine kills against Notre Dame de Namur while Becca Shoemaker added 12 digs for Findlay.

Taflinger was voted the tournament MVP while Vorst earned a spot on the all-tournament squad.

The Oilers will return to action on Friday, September 7, to host Urbana University (4 p.m.) and California University of Pennsylvania (7:30 p.m.) in the first day of the Findlay Fall Classic.
