Oilers Beat Mercyhurst to End Tournament

The University of Findlay volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-17) win over Mercyhurst on Saturday, Sept. 14 to end their TownePlace Suites Classic.  The victory gives the Oilers a 6-2 record on the season.

The Oilers used a balanced attack on offense as six players accumulated four or more kills in the win.  They were also solid on defense, registering four solo blocks and 16 assisted blocks.

Junior Amanda Calhoun paced the offense with 23 assists and seven kills while senior Mackenzie Vorst and sophomore Julie Lyons had six kills each.

Senior Danielle Taflinger chipped in five kills and eight total blocks while sophomore Andrea Roach and junior Lindsy Reindel produced five and four kills, respectively.

Southern Indiana won the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.  Lauren DeShaney of the Screaming Eagles was named the MVP while USI's Kayla Heldman earned outstanding libero honors.

Findlay's Amanda Calhoun and Danielle Taflinger earned a spot on the all-tournament team as the Oilers tied for second with a record of 3-1.

The Oilers will return to the court again on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when they host Mt. St. Joseph at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
