Volleyball to Host Ashland/Lake Erie this Weekend

The University of Findlay volleyball team will be at home for the first time in 2014 this weekend. The Oilers will host Ashland University on Friday before facing Lake Erie College on Saturday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.

Sights and Sounds

The University of Findlay will video webcast all of their home volleyball games on the internet.  The Oilers will also provide live stats for their games as well. The links are listed below:

The Oilers

The Oilers began their season with five matches in Missouri. They defeated William Jewell by a score of 3-2 in their opening match on Sep. 4 and then traveled to Kansas City, Mo. for four matches at the Rockhurst Invitational.

The Oilers went 2-2 in Kansas City, earning wins over Northwest Missouri State (3-1) and Pittsburg State (3-2). They lost matches to Missouri Western State (3-1) and Rockhurst (3-0).

Sophomore Hannah Tong paced the Oilers offense by accumulating 66 kills in the five matches. She hit .241 and also came away with 14 total blocks.

Junior Andrea Roach recorded 45 kills and 18 blocks while red-shirt freshman Nickyla Garverick had 43 kills and a team-high 26 blocks.

Freshman Erika Roach tallied 36 kills while junior Julie Lyons posted 21 kills and 21 blocks.

Senior Amanda Calhoun made the offense go with 179 assists and also came away with 45 digs.

Junior Becca Shoemaker paced the defense with 66 digs while freshman Madelyn McCabe had 51.

The Eagles

The Eagles are entering their match against the Oilers with a 0-4 record.  They opened the season at the Concordia St. Paul Tournament in St. Paul, Minn.

Alli Cudworth led the team with a total of 34 kills while Casey Clark had 33.

Katie Siefert registered 70 assists and 26 digs as well.

The Storm

The Storm are 2-3 on the season and will play Hillsdale before taking on the Oilers.

Asya Hobbs leads the team with 74 kills while Sara Aultz has racked up 41.

Samantha Knepley has recorded 103 assists and Graesyn Engler leads the team with 54 digs.
