Oilers Come From Behind to Beat Tech

The University of Findlay volleyball team came away with a thrilling 5-set victory over Michigan Technological University on Friday, Sep. 26 in Houghton, Mich. The Oilers lost the first two sets by score of 33-31 and 25-13 before rattling off three straight wins. They won the third and fourth sets of the match by a 25-22 margin and then closed out the Huskies with a 15-7 victory in the deciding set.

The Oilers, who are now 8-3 on the season with a 5-1 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, were led by sophomore Hannah Tong and her 20 kills.

Tong hit .388 for the match and also added four blocks.

Junior Andrea Roach blasted ten kills while red-shirt freshman Nickyla Garverick recorded nine kills and eight blocks.

Junior Julie Lyons contributed eight kills while sophomore Shannon Ebert tallied five.

Senior Amanda Calhoun had another solid all-around game with 51 assists, seven digs, three kills and two blocks while senior Samantha Granger registered three kills and nine digs.

Junior Becca Shoemaker recorded a team-high 26 digs, the sixth highest single match total in school history.

The Oilers will now face Northern Michigan University tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in Marquette, Mich.
