Box Score

On the first day of November, the University of Findlay volleyball won a closely contested match with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe, the Pioneers of Malone University in the first match of a tri-header held in Croy Gymnasium. The 3-2 (22-25, 25-16, 24-26, 33-31, 15-11) victory pushed the Oilers record to 18-6 overall and 13-3 in conference play.

Findlay received a record performance from their sophomore standout, Hannah Tong. The outside hitter smashed 31 kills in the five-set victory. This total ranks her atop the Oilers record book for kills in a match surpassing Mallory Fleming, who had 30 kills vs. Northern Michigan in October, 2007, and Kara Heitmeyer, who had 30 kills vs. Wayne State in 2003, 11 years ago to the day. Tong also had a pair of blocks in the match.

Freshman Erika Roach and junior Julie Lyons both played well offensively as they picked up 11 and eight kills, respectively. Lyons led the team at the net defensively as she picked up six blocks while Roach had four. Also blocking well were sophomore Shannon Ebert who ended up second on the team with five blocks, and redshirt freshman Nickyla Garverick who had four.

Making the offense go was senior Amanda Calhoun. The setter had 58 assists for the Oilers while picking up eight digs and four kills.

Leading the team in defensively was junior Becca Shoemaker. She picked up 25 digs for Findlay. The libero was also deadly at the line as she aced the Pioneers six times, placing her in a tie for ninth all-time for aces in a single match.

The Oilers will be back on the court for a match vs. Alderson-Broaddus. The contest is set to begin at 6pm in Croy Gymnasium.
