Garverick Named GLIAC South Player of the Week

Sophomore Nickyla Garverick was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division Player of the Week on Sep. 14 for her performance in the TownePlace Suites Classic over the weekend.

Garverick, who was named the MVP of the tournament in Findlay, led the Oilers to a 4-0 record and the 2015 TownePlace Suites Classic title. She recorded 44 kills in the four-match set while hitting .480. She also registered 14 total blocks.

The Crestline, Ohio native began the tournament with 15 kills in the Oilers 3-1 win over Ursuline on Sep. 10. She then followed with nine kills and six blocks in a 3-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Sep. 11. Garverick then closed the tournament with nine kills against Mercyhurst and 11 more against Cedarville on Sep. 12. Both were 3-0 wins by the Oilers.

Garverick was the 2014 GLIAC Freshman and Blocker of the Year. She earned NCAA Division II All-American honors and was a first team all-region and all-conference performer.
