Oilers Fall to Ashland

The University of Findlay volleyball team began their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schedule as they visited Ashland University on Friday, Sep. 18.  The Oilers fell to Ashland 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 27-29, 22-25).  The loss snaps a six-match win streak for Findlay and puts the Oilers at 6-3 overall on the season and 0-1 in the GLIAC.

Sophomore Nickyla Garverick continued to play well as she led the team with 13 kills.  She also showed her dominance on the defensive side of the net with one solo block and three block assists.  Senior Julie Lyons made her presence felt on defense with five block assists, as well as having seven kills.

Junior Hannah Tong and freshman Amanda Winner contributed with 11 kills each.  Freshman Hailee Olson had 37 assists and senior Becca Shoemaker had 13 digs for the Oilers.

The Oilers will return to action on Saturday, Sep. 19 as they travel to Lake Erie College.  The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
