Findlay Drops Two at Hampton Inn Invitational

Game 1 Box Score

On Fri., Sep. 2, The University of Findlay volleyball team fell to #23 University of West Florida 3-1 (27-29, 25-23, 21-25, 21-25) at the Hampton Inn Invitational in Pensacola, Fla.

Three Oilers reached double digits in the kill column led by sophomore Amanda Winner with 16.  She also showed her excellence at serving with four aces.  Senior Hannah Tong contributed with 12 kills and junior Nickyla Garverick added 11.  Garverick dominated the net defensively as well with one solo block and six block assists. 

Sophomore Hailee Olson distributed the ball well throughout the match and ended the game with 49 assists.  Leading Findlay defensively was sophomore Kara Scherger with 20 digs.

Game 2 Box Score

In their second matchup of the day, Findlay was unable to knock off #2 Wheeling Jesuit University, as the Cardinals defeated Findlay 3-0 (24-26, 24-26, 13-25).  The two losses on the day move Findlay to 0-3 on the young season.

Garverick led the Oilers in the second match with 13 kills and ended the match with a .524 kill percentage.  Tong contributed with 11 kills.

Olson continued to show off her passing skills as she ended with 34 assists, while also leading the team with two solo blocks.

Scherger and Winner led the defense with 14 and 10 digs respectively.  Scherger also added three serving aces in the match.

The Oilers wrap up competition in Pensacola, Fla. on Sat., Sep. 3 against Carson Newman at 10 a.m.
