Oilers Sink the Lakers

The University of Findlay volleyball team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-14) victory over the Lakers of Lake Superior State University on Friday, September 23.  The Oilers are now 7-4 on the season and 3-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

After losing the first set, Findlay used the one-two punch of sophomore Amanda Winner and senior Hannah Tong to come back and win three straight sets to win the match.  Winner led the Oilers with 17 kills and four aces.  Tong pounded out 15 kills, while also recording one solo block and three block assists.

Defensively, the Orange and Black were active at the net accumulating 11 total blocks in the match, compared to just four for the Lakers.  Senior Mallorie Kah made her presence felt at the net, as she led the Oilers with eight block assists.

Sophomore Kara Scherger anchored the back end of the defense with a team high 29 digs and added three serving aces. Her 29 digs are good for third all-time at UF and the most in a match since Jaqui Endre had 34 in September of 2011. Sophomore Hailee Olson continued to be the conductor of the offense, as she finished the match with 41 assists and aiding the defense with nine digs.

Catch the Oilers back in action on Saturday, September 24, as Findlay hosts Saginaw Valley State University in Croy Gymnasium with a 2:00 p.m. start time.
