Oilers Down Cardinals 3-0

On Saturday, September 24, The University of Findlay volleyball team hosted the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State University for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup.  The Oilers took care of business with a 3-0 (34-32, 25-14, 25-17) victory to improve to 8-4 on the season and 4-0 in GLIAC play.

After a back and forth first set, the Oilers cruised to a victory behind an efficient attack.  As a team, Findlay finished the match with a .319 kill percentage, compared to .183 for the Cardinals.  Senior Hannah Tong led the Oilers with 17 kills while hitting .452 and sophomore Amanda Winner played an all-around game accumulating 15 kills, three serving aces, and eight digs. 

Junior Nickyla Garverick almost reached the double digit kill mark.  She finished with eight kills in the match and led the team with three total blocks.

Sophomore Hailee Olson facilitated the ball well for the Oilers, as she picked up 45 assists in the match.  Fellow sophomore teammate, Kara Scherger, continued to perform well in the back defensively for Findlay.  She recorded a team high 20 digs.

The Oilers are back in action on Tuesday, September 27 as they travel to Detroit, Mich. to take on the Warriors of Wayne State University.  The match is schedule to begin at 7:00 p.m.
