Oilers Score 3-2 Win at Tech

The University of Findlay volleyball team won a five-set match against Michigan Technological University on Sep. 30 in Houghton, Mich. to push their record to 9-5 on the season with a 5-1 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Oilers won the first set by a 25-20 margin and then narrowly dropped the second by a score of 25-23. The Oilers then won the third set by a 25-13 score before falling in set four by a 25-16 margin. They then secured the victory in the final set of the match by a 15-10 score.

Findlay hit .218 for the match and received an outstanding performance from senior Hannah Tong in the victory. Tong tied her season-high with 19 kills in the match and hit .368 during the win. She also added four blocks and chipped in a dig.

Sophomore Amanda Winner, who has been named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week in each of the past two weeks, finished with another double-double in the win. Winner hammered 17 kills to go along with 13 digs and an ace.

Junior Nickyla Garverick just missed out on recording a double-double with eight kills and a season-high nine total blocks while sophomore Hailee Olson had seven kills and a team-high 50 assists.

Sophomore Kara Scherger paced the defense with 24 digs while senior Mallorie Kah had five blocks.

The Oilers will return to the court again tomorrow against Northern Michigan in Marquette, Mich. The match is scheduled to begin at 2pm.
