3 Oilers Earn All-Region Honors from AVCA

Three University of Findlay volleyball players were named first team all-Midwest Region as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released their annual NCAA Division II awards on Nov. 30. Senior Hannah Tong, red-shirt junior Nickyla Garverick and sophomore Hailee Olson earned three of the six spots on the first team for the Oilers.

Tong, the 2014 and 2016 GLIAC Attacker of the Year, was recently voted the D2CCA regional player of the year and is a two-time All-American for the Oilers. She has racked up 465 kills and is hitting .301 on the year. Tong has earned first team all-region and all-conference honors three times during her career at Findlay.

Garverick, a first team all-conference pick this season, is hitting .368 on the year and has recorded 258 kills and 96 blocks. Garverick has been an all-region pick in each of the past two seasons and was voted the 2014 GLIAC Blocker and Freshman of the Year. She was an honorable mention All-American pick in 2014 as well.

Olson, who earned second team all-conference honors for the Oilers this season, was also a first team all-region pick for Findlay last year. She was tabbed the 2015 NCAA Division II Freshman of the Year and also took home honors as the top freshman in the Midwest Region last year. Olson is averaging 10.89 assists per set and has a total of 1,209 assists. She has also contributed 134 digs, 71 kills, 50 blocks and 35 aces this season.
