Findlay Falls in First Round of Regional
Big Rapids, MI – The University of Findlay dropped a 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-10) decision on Thursday, Dec. 1 in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional. With the loss to Cedarville, a team with which the Oilers split two regular season games, Findlay ends their 2016 season with a 21-10 record. It is the second year in a row that the Oilers have ended their season at a regional held on the campus of Ferris State.
For the eighth time this season, the Oilers played a five-set match. Before Thursday, Findlay had a 4-3 record in such games after winning their first four and losing their previous three.
Leading the way was standout senior Hannah Tong, who recently earned Midwest Region Attacker of the Year. Tong finished the match with 15 kills, giving her 1,563 in her career, fifth most in Findlay history. She was joined by sophomore Amanda Winner who had 15 kills and added 14 digs.
Senior Nickyla Garverick also hit double-figures as she collected 11 kills and hit .333 in the match. She ends her career at Findlay with 845 kills and the best hitting percentage in school history at .350. Her 345 blocks are good for ninth all-time. Garverick had six blocks for Findlay while senior Mallorie Kah led the team with nine.
Sophomore Hailee Olson had 41 assists in the game and now has 2,773 in her career which is seventh at Findlay for assists in a career.
