Oilers Fall 3-1 to Hillsdale in Championship Match

The University of Findlay volleyball team fell 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 26-24) to Hillsdale in the championship match of the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament on Nov. 18 in Hillsdale, Mich. The loss gives the Oilers a 27-6 record on the season.

Junior Amanda Winner and sophomore Izzy Murphy led the squad with 11 kills apiece. Sophomore Molly Hammersmith also reached the double digit kill plateau with ten.

Junior Hailee Olson contributed 38 assists and nine digs while junior Kara Scherger and senior Megan Wendel had 15 and ten digs, respectively.

As a team, the Oilers hit .107 in the match and had 11 serving errors. Hillsdale meanwhile hit .210 and were led by Paige Vanderwall, who had a match-high 15 kills.

The Oilers will now hope to secure an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. They were ranked sixth in the region this past week. The top-eight in the region will qualify for the tournament. The selection show will take place on Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
