Oilers Volleyball Opens with Pair of Losses in Nebraska

Kearney, Neb. - The University of Findlay women's volleyball team traveled to the Cornhusker State to open up their 2019 campaign on Friday, Sep. 6. Findlay dropped its first two matches of the season as they lost to Augustana University in three sets (11-25, 20-25, 23,25) and in the evening match, lost to the University of Nebraska Kearney, which finished last season with a 33-3 record, in four sets (25-22, 19-25, 19-25, 14-25). Through one day at the event, the Oilers are 0-2 while Augustana and Nebraska Kearney each start their seasons 2-0.

Junior Rylie Patterson led the Oilers in kills against Augustana with 12 and hit .455 in the match. She also recorded two blocks in the match. Senior Shelby Kin added nine kills for the Oilers.

Junior setter Emily Annesser dished out 26 assists in the match to go along with contributing four digs. Juniors Alana Sundermann and Olivia Morrison were both able to reach double figures in digs with 15 and 10, respectively. 

In set 3, the Oilers held a 23-20 lead, looking to force at least a fourth set. However, Augustana was able to rally off five straight points en route to the 3-0 sweep.

The Oilers got off to a strong start in match number two, winning the first set 25-22. However, UNK would be too much to handle as they would take the next three from the Oilers.

Kin and Pattinson paced the Oilers in kills as they had 13 and 12, respectively. 

Annesser has 36 assists in the match to go along with 12 digs. Sundermann recorded an impressive 26 digs in the match to lead the orange and black. 

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow as they have another doubleheader slated. They will face Adams St, (Co.) at 10:00am, and Oklahoma Baptist at 4:00pm.
