Volleyball Season Ends in G-MAC Quarterfinal

Ashland, Ohio - The University of Findlay volleyball team ended their 2022 season in the first round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 10 in Ashland, Ohio. The Oilers, seeded third, lost 3-0 (25-18. 25-22, 25-19) to Walsh University which held the sixth seed in the tournament. With the tournament loss, Findlay ends its 2022 campaign with an 18-14 record while Walsh, who advances to Friday's semifinal against Hillsdale College, improves to 16-11.

It was not meant to be on Thursday for the Oilers, who never held a lead in the match and only had the score tied once, a 19-19 tie in the second set. Walsh had the hot hand on the day, hitting .327 in the win including a match-best percentage of .366 in the close set. 

On the flip side, the Oilers hit just .188 including just .034 in the opening set. The Cavaliers also took advantage from the service line, recording eight aces in the match compared to three for the Oilers.

Findlay was led by senior Norah Painter who had a team-high ten kills while hitting .588 in the match. She also picked up a pair of blocks.

Today named G-MAC Player of the Year, sophomore Journey Blevins was stifled by a stout Cavaliers defense. Blevins recorded eight kills on 32 attacks and hit .000 for the match. She also had three blocks and five digs.

Freshman Alana Pohlman had six kills and four blocks while senior Emma Meyer recorded four kills and a team high five blocks.

This season is the ninth winning season in the last ten for Findlay which has now won at least 18 games in seven of the previous ten seasons.
