Oilers Cross Country Teams Compete at GLIAC Championship

Results

It was a chilly day as the University of Findlay cross country teams competed at the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship held at Seneca Hills Golf Course in Tiffin, Ohio on Saturday, November 8.

GLIAC awards were received as follows:

Women 6k:

Out of 15 competing teams, the Oiler women finished ninth, scoring with 291 points.

Freshman Taylor Bolinger paced Findlay's women's team as she earned 28^th place with a time of 21:52. Junior Erica Bettac finished in a time of 22:39 and came in 47^th. Coming in 27 seconds later was sophomore Melanie Ruich. Her time of 23:06 placed her in 66^th overall. Also scoring for Findlay was junior Meredith Hoops who finished in 81^st with a time of 23:32.Rounding out the scoring was junior McKenzie Mahlmeister who finished in 104^th with a time of 24:04.

Other runners included junior Samantha Grippe (112, 24:30), sophomore Kailey Coleman (128, 25:38), and sophomore Maud Sanmiquel (130, 25:38).

Men 8k:

Out of 14 competing teams, the Oiler men finished 11^th, scoring 334 points.

Senior Jacob Hayes led the way for Findlay with his 48^th place finish in a time of 25:46. Despite challenging conditions, the time was just 34 seconds off his career best, which he set last season. Close behind was senior Justin Eilerman who battled a strained Achilles tendon to finish in 61^st with his time of 26:09.

Freshman Sean Stockmaster was the third Oiler across the line and his time of 26:35 was good enough for a 79^th place finish. Coming in 92^nd was freshman Matias Trampe-Kindt who completed the 8,000 meter race in 26:49. Findlay's final scorer was junior Derek Bornorst who finished in 27:31 to earn 108^th place.

Other runners for the Orange and Black included freshman Jacob Will (109, 27:32) and sophomore Aaron Cingle (122, 28:30).

Both teams will be back on the course Saturday, November 22^nd as they compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional held in Evansville, Indiana.
