Oilers Start Season Strong at Ohio Wesleyan Invitational

The University of Findlay cross country teams began their 2015 season with a solid showing at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, Sep. 5.

In the men's 8 kilometer run, sophomore Matias Trampe-Kindt set the pace for the Oilers.  He finished 12th with a time of 27:07.7.  Following close behind were a trio of freshmen for Findlay.  Austin Guthrie finished at the 27:09.7 mark to place 14th, Jonathan Allen came in 16th after crossing the finish line at the 27:12 mark and Ty Gleason earned a 19th place finish with a time of 27:28.7.  Rounding out the scoring for the Oilers was junior Aaron Cingle who finished a couple seconds later at the 27:42.7 mark to earn 21st place. 

Sophomore Sean Stockmaster (27:42.7), freshman Michael Taylor (28:17.7), freshman Troy Schultz (28:41.4), freshman Tyler Beck (28:42.4), sophomore Reid Wolin (29:09.3), sophomore John Davis (30:22.9), freshman Hobie Cotsamire (31:07.8) and freshman Dylan Jacobs (31:56.6) also took part in the event.

The Findlay men finished in third place as a team with 75 points scored.

In the women's race, senior Erica Bettac finished 2nd with a time of 19:02.5, just a tenth of a second behind the first place finisher.  Not to be outdone was junior Melanie Ruich who finished just seconds behind Bettac .  Ruich's time of 19:11.6 earned her a 3rd place finish.

Seniors Meredith Hoops finished 12th coming in at the 19:42.2 mark and Samantha Grippe came in with a time of 20:26.7 to earn 25th place.  The final points for Findlay came from sophomore Taylor Bolinger who finished 31st with her time of 20:59.3. 

Senior McKenzie Mahlmeister (21:20.1), freshman Torrie Purdy (21:37), freshman Heidi Paxton (23:11.9), junior Kailey Coleman (23:52.2) and freshman Claire Crum (25:02) also took part in the event.

The Findlay women finished in second place as a team with 66 points score.

The University of Findlay's cross country teams are back in action Saturday, Sep. 12 in Northville, Mich. as the take part in the Running Fit Titan Invitational set to begin at 11:15 AM.
