Burlison and Allen Earn All-GLIAC Honors

Big Rapids, MI – The University of Findlay men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championships on Satruday, Oct. 22. The races took place on the campus of Ferris State University on the Katke Golf Course with the women running a six kilometer course and the men running eight kilometers.
Women
As a team, the Oilers women took eighth place of the 15 competing teams with their score of 175. Grand Valley State was the champion with a score of 35.
Findlay's Nicole Burlison was the top finisher on the squad as she raced to a time of 22:22.2, the fifth-fastest time in school history. That time earned her 11th place in the meet of 123 runners and for her efforts, she was awarded second-team all-GLIAC. She is the first female runner to earn all-GLIAC honors since Emily Gauger did so in 2006.
Junior Taylor Bolinger, who was the previous week's Athlete of the Week, took 27th place in the race with a time of 23:08.8.
Freshman Madisen Borer, senior Melanie Ruich, and sophomore Torrie Purdy all finished less than ten seconds apart. Borer finished in 46th with a time of 24:02.6, Ruich took 50th with a 24:07.7, and Purdy was in 52nd with a 24:09.9 to round out the scoring.
The remaining finishers were freshman Madilyn Greiner (72 / 24:57.3), freshman Jenna Shipman (81 / 25:31.6), sophomore Megan Martz (91 / 26:02.2), and senior Maud Sanmiquel (98 / 26:39.7).
Men
The Oilers men's team finished in ninth place of 14 competing teams with a score of 252 with Grand Valley State taking the top spot with a score of 28.
Findlay's top runner on the men's side was last week's GLIAC Athlete of the Week, sophomore Jonathan Allen. He ended the race with the 13th best time in school history, a 25:46.3 that earned him 19th place in the meet of 117. His finish was good enough to earn him a spot on the all-GLIAC second team and in doing so, he has become the first male runner in school history to be named all-GLIAC.
Next across the line was sophomore Tyler Beck who finished in 58th place with a time of 27:12.3 while teammates Michael Taylor, sophomore, and Matias Trampe-Kindt, junior, finished 65th and 67th with times of 27:22.0 and 27:25.1, respectively.
Rounding out the scoring for Findlay was sophomore Austin Guthrie who took 86th place with a 27:59.6.
Findlay's final runner was sophomore Troy Schultz who ran a 29:44.1 to take 110th.
