Oilers Split With Wheeling Jesuit

The University of Findlay baseball team split a double header with Wheeling Jesuit on Monday, March 5th in Winter Haven, Fla.

In game one, the Oilers exploded for five runs in the third inning to erase a 1-0 deficit and broke it open with another five runs in the sixth.

Freshmen Eric Terwilliger recorded his first collegiate hit with a leadoff double in the third followed by a Dustin Zielaskiewicz triple to tie the score at one apiece.

Riley Christian singled to plate Zielaskiewicz, and Reid Rothenbuhler followed with a triple to give the Oilers a 3-1 lead.  Rothenbuhler would score on Blake Schmenk's ground out.  With two outs, Victor Migliore singled and Tommy Roush doubled to give Findlay a 5-1 advantage.

Wheeling would answer with two in the fourth, but another five run inning in the sixth gave the Oilers some cushion.

After Tommy Roush singled and David Cort was hit by a pitch, Terwilliger came up big once again with a triple. Zielaskiewicz then singled to score Terwilliger. Christian followed with a walk and would later cross the plate to make the score 10-3.

Drew Hargrove went the distance allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out seven in the 10-5, game one win.

In game two, the Oilers fell behind 4-0 but scored four in the second inning. Roush reached on an error followed by a Dylan Cintula walk. Terwilliger would collect his third extra base hit of the day, a double, that scored Roush. Zielaskiewicz singled to plate two and scored on a ground out by Christian.

In the third, Cintula reached on an error and would later score for a 5-3 lead.

It stayed that way until the fifth when wheeling scored six runs and added a run in the seventh to make the final score 11-5.

Migliore was tagged with the loss.

The Oilers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 7th when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan in a double header.
