Findlay Drops a Pair at Walsh

North Canton, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team dropped a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) North Division games on Sunday, April 8 at the hands of the Walsh Cavaliers. With the two losses, the Oilers fall to 16-7 overall and 9-4 in league play while the Cavs improve to 16-12 with a 9-6 mark in the conference.

Game 1 (L 15-1 | Box Score)

After dropping the first game of the series on Saturday, Walsh wasted no time in the opener on Sunday as they would score four runs in the first inning, five in the third, and five in the fourth to open up an 14-0 lead through just four innings of play.

Findlay scored their lone run of the game in the fifth on an RBI single from Nic Varda, but with just seven hits in the game, the Oilers did have the firepower to mount a rally as the would take a 14-run loss.

Alex Harter took the loss on the mound, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing eight runs, seven earned, on just three hits. Harter fell victim to seven walks.

Freshman Ethan St. Clair and senior Josh Schwerer each had two hits in the game.

Game 2 (L 8-6 | Box Score)

Walsh again asserted themselves in the nightcap as they'd score three runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to an early lead.

Findlay would cut that lead to one with a pair of runs in the second, highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of Troy Merriman.

After the Oilers scored a single run in the third, the Cavaliers came back with three more in the third to extend their lead to 6-3.

Again, Findlay scored one run in the sixth, but again, the Cavs had the answer as they'd score a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Findlay's one run in the ninth would cut the lead to two, but was not enough to extend the game as the Cavs would seal the series win.

Cory Carl (1-2) took the loss on the hill. He threw 2.1 innings and allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Tyler Burley and Josh Schwerer each had two hits in the contest while leadoff hitter Ethan St. Clair reached base three times with one hit and a pair of walks.

The Oilers return home for a game against former GLIAC opponent Wayne St. (Mich.) on Tuesday, April 10. That game will begin at 3:00 pm.
