Oilers Lose in Extra Innings

Massillon, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team fell 3-2 in ten innings against Malone University on April 28. The loss gives the Oilers a 20-12 record on the season with a 13-7 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior Derrick Herd singled to left field, scoring freshman Ethan St. Clair.  

The Pioneers tied the game in the bottom of the third and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth before senior Josh Schwerer tripled to score freshman Ryan Johnson in the seventh. Schwerer tried to stretch his triple into an inside the park home run, but was thrown out on the play.  

The two teams would remain tied as they headed to extra innings. Malone then came away with the winning run in the bottom of the tenth.

Herd went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense while senior Colin Gossard started the game and pitched a gem, allowing only two runs in eight innings of work.

Reid Renollet took the loss by allowing a run in 1.1 innings of action.

The Oilers will be back in action again tomorrow when they play two against Malone starting at 1pm.
