Findlay Swept by League-Leading Malone

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team dropped their final two games of their home opening Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) series with Malone University on Saturday, April 6. With the losses, the Oilers are now 10-16 overall with a 4-10 record in the conference. League-leading Malone is now 24-11 overall and 14-4 in league action.

Game 1 Box Score (L 6-4)

After struggling to score in Friday's opening double-header, the Oilers put up four runs in the second inning of the first game to take a 4-1 lead. The bulk of those runs came with two outs when sophomore Ryan O-Malley crushed a three-run home run to straight-away centerfield.

That was the only scoring of the game for Findlay who grounded into three double-plays in the game.

Malone added three runs in the third to tie the game and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.

Findlay scored their four runs on five hits and made one error. They left just two runners on base. Malone scored six runs on ten hits, did not make an error, and left eight runners on base.

Tyler Kennedy started and took the loss on the hill after throwing six innings. He allowed ten hits and gave up six runs, five earned, while walking three and striking out three.

O'Malley's home run was the only extra-base hit of the game for Findlay. He had three RBI and a run scored to lead the offense.

Game 2 Box Score (L 4-2)

Findlay got another good start on the mound in the second contest, this time out of senior Hunter Weis, but it was not enough as the offense mustered just two runs, both of which came in the seventh inning of action. Those two unearned runs came on an RBI single from junior Sam Shelt Palm.

The Oilers scored their two runs on three hits and made one error. Malone had four runs, single runs in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth, and had six hits.

Weis threw 7.1 innings and gave up five runs, four earned, on five hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Shelt Palm had a hit and two RBI while Trevor Anderson had a double and a run scored.

Findlay will host Walsh in a four-game series starting Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 pm.
