Oilers Take Series Finale Against Walsh

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team slugged their way to a win in the series finale with Walsh on Saturday, April 13, splitting the double header. With the split, the Oilers are now 11-19 on the season and 5-13 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) while Walsh moves to 18-16 overall and 11-7 in the league.

Game 1 Box Score (L 5-0)

After dropping both games on Friday, the Oilers fell behind early in the third contest of the weekend, giving up a pair of runs in the first inning. One run in the fourth and two more in the sixth gave the Cavaliers, who blasted 13 hits in the game, five runs in the game.

Findlay managed just two hits in the game, singles in the second and seventh innings.

Senior Tyler Kennedy took the loss on the hill to fall to 1-3 on the year. He threw 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on ten hits while walking two and striking out two.

Game 2 Box Score (W 7-2)

In the final game of the series, Findlay was finally able to string hits together as they blasted 16 hits in the game.

The Oilers took the lead with a single run in the bottom of the second when, after junior Austin Rawlins and junior Jordan Williams singled with one out, junior Sam Shelt Palm singled to plate Rawlins to put Findlay ahead 1-0. Walsh tied the game with a home run in the third.

Freshman Alex Foulks delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to again put the Oilers ahead, but as they have done all weekend, the Cavaliers had an answer, scoring one in the seventh to again draw the game even at 2-2.

The Oilers big inning came in the bottom of the seventh. Foulks led off the inning with a double to left and, after a strikeout and groundout, Foulks would come in to score on a wild pitch to put the home team ahead 3-2. Sophomore Tyler Archambeau then doubled to left and Austin Rawlins drove a ball over the wall in right field for his third home run of the season and second of the series.

A pair of runs in the eighth gave Findlay the insurance they needed as they would take a five-run victory.

Tyler Archambeau led the way with three hits, a home run shy of the cycle, for the Orange and Black while Rawlins had two hits and led the Oilers with two RBI and two runs scored.

Freshman AJ Clarey, Alex Foulks, senior Trevor Anderson, and Sam Shelt Palm each had two hits in the game.

Hunter Weis got the win on the hill for Findlay to improve to 3-2 on the year. He threw eight innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out five in the victory.

Findlay will be back on the field Wednesday, April 17 when they head to Urbana to play the Blue Knights in a non-league affair.
