Oilers Fall in Extra Innings at Notre Dame College

Box Score

Avon, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team went to extra innings on Tuesday, March 10, but lost on a walk-off at the hands of the Notre Dame College Falcons by a score of 3-2. With the loss, the Oilers fall to 5-7 on the season while Notre Dame improves to 3-8.

Findlay had a one-out double in the first inning by senior Casey Gould, but it was not until the second that the Oilers would push a run across home plate.

Junior Ryan Johnson led off the top of the second with a walk and advanced on a single by sophomore Brandon Emery. After a strikeout, junior Ryan O'Malley walked to load the bases. Senior Nick Berry reached on an error by the Falcons' catcher to give Findlay a 1-0 lead, still with the bases loaded. Sophomore Christian Orr then hit a sacrifice fly that tied the game, but Berry was picked off on the play, ending the inning. It would be the only runs for the Oilers for the remainder of the game.

On the hill, freshman Tyler Trammel was having a good game and allowed just three hits through the first five innings. In the sixth, Notre Dame finally scored to pull within one run at 2-1.

Senior Jameson Jacobs and sophomore Trey Bame combined for three innings of scoreless pitching out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit apiece over that span.

In the bottom of the tenth, sophomore Gavin Bailey entered the game for Findlay. After back-to-back singles put runners on the corners, an intentional walk loaded the bases. Bailey then issued a bases-loaded, no-out walk to end the game with a walk-off walk.

In the game, Findlay scored two runs on seven hits, made one error, and left seven runners on base. The Falcons scored their three runs on eight hits, made two errors, and left seven runners on base.

Senior second baseman Casey Gould led the offense with three hits, including a double. It is the second consecutive three-hit game for Gould and the fifth time this season he has recorded a multi-hit performance.

Emery finished with a single and a run scored.

Trammel went six innings in the start and allowed one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Bailey took the loss, his first of the year, after allowing one run on two hits and two walks in the tenth.

Findlay opens up Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Saturday and Sunday, March 14-15 when they travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on Lake Erie College. That four-game set will begin Saturday at 1:00 pm.
