Oilers Drop First Two to Tiffin | Kyle Strikes out 13 Tiffin Batters in Game 1

Findlay, OH- The University of Findlay baseball team started their 4-game series against the Tiffin University Dragons on Sunday Apr 10 at the Cube. Findlay came into the contest 4th in the G-MAC with a 10-6 record and sitting at 14-18 on the season.  

Findlay started the scoring off early with a homerun by junior Aiden Lao in the bottom of the 1st inning to give the Oilers an early 1-0 lead.  

The Oilers would strike again in the bottom of the third inning with another homerun, this time off the bat of senior Ryan O'Malley that scored Lao to give Findlay a 3-0 lead.  

O'Malley would hit another 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 5th inning, again scoring Lao, to give the Oilers a 5-run lead. Later in the inning junior Nate Brooks would single up the middle to bring junior Cam Farrar around, making the score 6-0. 

The Dragons would go on to put up 9 runs in the last 3 innings and go on to win the game 9-6. 

Senior Anthony Kyle started on the mound for the Oilers. Kyle would throw 6 innings, allowing only two earned runs, while striking out 13 Dragons. Senior Gavin Bailey would come in next and throw .2 innings allowing three earned runs while striking out 2 batters. Freshmen Ashton Schroeder would throw the next 1.2 innings allowing one earned run while striking out two batters. Senior Trey Bame would come in next and allow one earned run. Freshmen Jacob Flaherty would finish the game on the mound for Findlay striking out 2 batters without giving up a run.  

Game Two- (L 10-3 ) 

Tiffin started the scoring off in the top of the first inning with three runs to give them an early lead.  

The Oilers would put their first run on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning off and RBI single from senior Christian Orr that scored senior Tyler Burley.  

The Dragons would put up another 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning making the score 6-1.  

O'Malley would send his third ball over the fence in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a solo homerun to bring the score to 6-2. 

A bases loaded 3RBI double in the top of the 5th gave Tiffin a 9-2 lead and another run in the top of the 6th put them up by 8. 

Burley would score again in the bottom of the 6th on an RBI groundout by junior Nolan O'Connell bringing the score to 10-3. 

The Oilers would no go quietly as freshmen Tanner Herrera would score in the bottom of the 7th on a wild pitch. Later in the inning O'Malley would score on a bases loaded RBI walk by Orr. Freshmen Austin Adelman would get hit by a pitch with bases loaded to bring O'Connell for the Oilers 3rd run of the inning. Junior Kyron Rogers would then score on a wild pitch to put the game within three runs. Despite the big inning the Oilers would still come up a bit short with the game ending 10-4.

Senior Bailey McCord started on the mound for Findlay throwing 2.1 innings for the Oilers allowing 6 earned runs. Sophomore Logan Bragg would come into the game in relief. Bragg would allow no runs in 1.2 innings. Junior Sebastian Jones would throw the 5th inning allowing 3 earned runs while striking out 2 batters. Freshmen Zavier Thornton would throw next for Findlay allowing one earned run while striking out one batter in 1 inning. Senior Spencer Giesige would finish the game on the mound allowing no runs and striking out two batters. 

The Oilers look to bounce back in the final two games of the series on Apr 11 and even the series.
