Oilers Swept in Double Header at Ashland

Ashland, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 on the road against the Ashland Eagles. The Oilers dropped the opener by a score of 5-4 in extra innings and then lost 14-2 in the second game. With the losses, Findlay is now 17-27 on the year and holds a 12-13 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while Ashland improves to 28-15 overall and 19-8 in the G-MAC. The Oilers remain in sixth in the conference standings with the top six teams earning a trip to Prasco Park in two weeks for the G-MAC Championship Tournament.

Box Score Game 1 (L 5-4 – 9 Inn.)

Ashland jumped ahead in the opener, using a three-run moonshot over the left field fence to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. But Findlay would answer right back.

In the top of the third, senior Alex Foulks led off with a single and was followed by a walk to junior Aidan Lao. A sacrifice bunt advanced both runners and, after a strikeout, junior Cam Farrar hit a two-run single to make the score 3-2.

After three quick outs in the bottom half of the third, Findlay would add two more runs in the fourth. A one-out walk to senior Christian Orr and single by sophomore Andrew Micale put two runners on. Foulks then ripped a double to right center, scoring Orr and Micale and giving Findlay its' first lead of the day at 4-3.

Ashland tied the game up at 4-4, however, with a single run in the bottom of the frame.

The game then became a pitchers' dual as neither team was able to score before the seventh inning, sending the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Ashland started with back-to-back singles and, after a wild pitch, another single ended the game in walk off fashion.

Ashton Schroeder took the loss for Findlay, throwing two innings and allowing just one run, the final run, on four hits.

Senior Anthony Kyle started for the Oilers and went 6.2 innings allowing four runs on eight hits. He walked four and struck out seven.

Foulks finished with a pair of hits and two RBI while Farrar had one hit and two RBI.

Box Score Game 2 (L 14-2)

The second game of the day got out of hand early for the Oilers.

Despite scoring two runs in the first, with the big blow being a solo home run off the bat of Cam Farrar, Findlay found itself trailing through one inning as the Eagles scored six in the bottom of the first.

The bottom of the second started with a single and a home run to left center by Ashland knocked Findlay's starter, senior Jordan Bekier, out of the game.

From there the Eagles poured it on, scoring a single run in the third, two in the fourth, and three more in the fifth, cruising to a 14-2 victory.

Bekier took the loss on the hill, falling to 6-3 on the year. He completed one inning and allowed eight runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out one.

Cam Farrar had two hits and an RBI in the game which gives him 43 on the season, just three shy of the school record of 46 set by Chad Guey in 2007.

Findlay wraps up the series with Ashland tomorrow, May 1, with a nine inning game that starts at 1:00 pm.
