Despite Late Push Oilers Drop Game 4 vs Ashland

Ashland, OH- The University of Findlay Baseball team played their 4th game against the Ashland University Eagles in Ashland OH on May 1. Findlay is looking to make a final push at the end of the season to stay in contention for the G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) Conference Tournament. Coming into the game the Oilers sported a 17-27 record overall and a 12-13 record in G-MAC play.

Neither team could get much rolling until Oilers junior Aiden Lao sent a ball over the fence in the top of the 3rd inning for a 3-run homerun that scored senior Christian Orr and junior Nate Brooks.

Ashland would respond with 4 runs in both the bottom of the 3rd and 4th innings with help from a string of hits and two homeruns to give them an 8-3 lead.

Senior Ryan O'Malley would drive in the Oilers 4th run of the game in the top of the 5th inning with an RBI single to plate Lao.

Junior Cam Farrar would send a ball over the fence for his 10th homerun of the season to bring the game back to within 3 runs after 8 and half innings of play.

Findlay would battle back in the 9th inning when Orr scored on a fielding error with no outs that allowed freshmen Jabin Bates to reach base and bring the game within two runs. Senior Tyler Burley would also reach base on an error allowing Lao to score. However, that is where the scoring would end as the Oilers came up one run short.

Freshmen Jacob Flaherty started on the hill for Findlay and would throw 3.2 innings allowing 8 earned runs while striking out 2 batters. Senior Gavin Bailey would come out of the bullpen to relieve Flaherty in the 4th inning. Bailey would go on to throw 3 innings allowing no earned runs and striking out 5 batters. Senior Spencer Giesige would throw 1 inning on the mound for the Oilers allowing no earned runs and freshmen Ashton Schroeder would finish the game allowing no earned runs.

The Oilers will be back on the diamond on Friday May 6 when they travel to take on the Ohio Dominican University Panthers for their final regular season series.
